This photograph depicts the lack of colonial growth displayed by Gram-negative, Brucella abortus bacteria, which was grown on a medium of MacConkey agar, for a 24 hour time period, at a temperature of 37°C. Brucella spp., bacteria grow very poorly, or not at all, on MacConkey agar. Members of this genus, including B. abortus, cause a disease known as brucellosis.
