Caption:
From the “Illustrated Manual for the Recognition and Diagnosis of Certain Animal Diseases”, published in 1982, by the Mexico-United States Commission for the Prevention of Foot and Mouth Disease, this photograph depicts a bovine leg joint, swollen with synovitis. Note the presence of skin nodules atop the joint, which follows the pathogenesis of lumpy skin disease (LSD). Caused by a Poxviridae family member, this virus causes the eruption of skin nodules to take place over all regions of the bovine body.
