Caption:
This historic 1977 image depicted a young African-American girl seated on her mother’s lap, about to receive a vaccination in her right thigh, which was being administered by a public health nursing practitioner, inside a well-baby clinic in Dekalb County, Georgia. Well-baby clinics are public health, tax-supported medical facilities, which aid in childhood, as well as family health related matters, usually at a reduced cost to visitors. They are most well-known for providing immunizations for childhood diseases including diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, Haemophilus influenzae type-B, hepatitis-B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella.
