Caption:
This image depicts a Nobuto test strip that had been soaked in a collected blood sample, and dried in accordance with required laboratory protocols, and its accompanying data card. Note that this specimen was collected from a coyote. Dried strips may be mailed without fear of specimen degradation, or the need for refrigeration, unlike a whole blood sample. Whole blood should NEVERbe shipped because the clotting and deterioration that occurs in transit can interfere with laboratory tests. Also, just as important, is the inclusion of a properly completed data card. Test results are useless unless the exact location of each positive sample can be plotted on a map to identify probably plague foci. Each sample must be given an individual field number that is unique, and can be recalled for future reference. A specimen without data is no specimen!
