Caption:
This image depicts the eyes of a 19-year-old, who had pulled his lower lids downward, thereby, exposing the bilateral erythematous conjunctival membranes, which had been attributed to Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), also known as erythema multiforme major. Erythema multiforme is an allergic reaction in response to medications, infections, or illness, and requires only symptomatic therapy. SJS can be life threatening, whereupon, due to epidermal necrosis, the epidermis separates from the underlying dermis.
