This graph entitled, Trends in cigarette smoking among 12th graders, by racial/ethnic group – United States, 1977-1998, and compares the numbers of white, Hispanic, and black students, who smoked during this time span. Note that although white smokers always seemed to be at a higher percentage, all three races experienced a decline in smokers until approximately 1992, when all three, once again, experienced an upward trend in smokers.
