Caption:
Photographed from above, this image depicted a Minitek® (BD Biosciences) anaerobe identification kit, used to identify specific bacterial species based on their microchemical behavior. All the wells, except for the four empty wells in row four had been inoculated with Gram-negative, Fusobacterium nucleatum bacteria. In this case, this test was conducted in order to determine the postreaction presence of indole. A small paper disk, which had been impregnated with a biochemical substrate was added to each well used. Subsequently, the F. nucleatum culture was added to each well, and the plate was then incubated. After having incubated the plate, the required reagent was added to each well, and it was the color produced by the addition of the reagent that was recorded, which would help to identify the bacterial anaerobe.
