Caption:
This image depicts a close view of a Petri dish culture plate, that had contained a Thayer-Martin growth medium, inoculated with Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria. The bacterial organisms grew umbilicated colonies, which is an atypical colonial morphology. However, when these organisms were subcultured, which means regrown in another Petri dish, the organisms grew colonies of normal morphology. Typically, N. gonorrhoeae organisms grows small, grayish white, convex, translucent shiny colonies with either smooth, or irregular margins. The atypical results of this test were of unknown significance.
