Photographed from above, this 1975 image depicts a Minitek® (BD Biosciences) anaerobe identification kit, used to identify specific bacterial species based on their microchemical behavior. Wells had been inoculated with Gram-positive, Clostridium perfringens bacteria. Four rows of wells are visible, with the bottom row was left empty for this test.

A small paper disk, which had been impregnated with a biochemical substrate, was added to each well used. Subsequently, the C. perfringens culture was added to each well, and the plate was then incubated. After having incubated the plate, the required reagent was added to each well, and it was the color produced by the addition of the reagent that was recorded, which would help to identify the bacterial anaerobe.
