The right eye of this patient exhibited a pinguecula, which is a non-cancerous lesion of the conjunctival membrane covering the eyeball. This pinguecula arose adjacent to the nasal, or medial side of the cornea. Note the neovascularization feeding this lesion with its own blood supply. It is thought that chronic irritation, or long-term exposure to sunlight, especially its infrared and ultraviolet rays, may be a cause for this ophthalmic lesion.
