This photomicrograph of tissue extracted from a region of a human eye, revealed the presence of innumerable, Mycobacterium leprae, in a severe case of lepromatous leprosy, which under the newer World Health Organization (WHO) standards, is classified as multibacillary (MB) leprosy. The involvement of this patient’s eye had ultimately lead to blindness.
