Caption:
This image depicts a superior view of an axial section of the human brain through the level of the pons and superior cerebellar peduncles. The specimen was obtained during the autopsy of a patient, who had succumbed to a disease known as neurocysticercosis (NCC), a parasitic infection caused by the larval cysts of the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium. This was an atypical form of the disease, in which case the larval cyst was found to be intraparenchymal in its location, invading the midbrain tissue.
