This is the twelfth in a series of images, PHIL 16989 through 17013, depicting a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Library and Information Center (PHLIC) exhibit entitled, Bringing the World Home: CDC’s Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) Celebrate Peace Corps Week 02/23/14 – 03/01/14. You are looking at a booklet acquired by RPCV, Vince Radke, during his 1970–1974 tour in Ethiopia’s largest southwestern city, Jimma, represents what was the textbook, used by PCV to help teach them Ethiopia’s official language, known as Amharic. Published in 1964, the manual was used as accompaniment to a basic course in learning the Amharic language, and was published by the Foreign Service Institute, Washington, D.C.
