This is the thirteenth in a series of images, PHIL 16989 through 17013, depicting a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Library and Information Center (PHLIC) exhibit entitled, Bringing the World Home: CDC’s Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) Celebrate Peace Corps Week 02/23/14 – 03/01/14. From Donsol, a municipality in the province of Sorsogon located in the island country of the Philippines, this small, stuffed, handmade toy, represents a whale shark. Donsol is one of the few places throughout the World, where whale sharks gather on a yearly basis. The toy is known as a Butanding, which in the native language of Tagalog, means whale shark, and was donated by RPCV, Beth Ervin, which she acquired during her Philippines PCV tour from 2008-2010.
