This image depicts the gluteal region of a male patient, who had presented with what was described as condylomata lata lesions, involving the intergluteal cleft, buttocks, and perianal region, which had been due to what was diagnosed as a case of secondary syphilis, caused by the bacterial spirochete, Treponema pallidum. The secondary stage of syphilis is characterized by the manifestation of a skin rash, and mucous membrane lesions. This stage typically starts with the development of a rash on one or more areas of the body. The rash usually does not cause itching.
