This image depicts what was a view of a female patient’s perineum. The patient presented to a clinical setting with what appeared to be mucous lesions of the perineum, mainly on the labia majora. These lesions were later diagnosed, as being the result of a secondary syphilitic infection, caused by the bacterial spirochete, Treponema pallidum.
