This image depicted a close right superolateral view of a male patient’s scalp. The patient exhibited a condition known as moth eaten alopecia, which had been caused by a secondary syphilitic condition, due to the spirochete bacterium, Treponema pallidum. Note how the hair loss manifested as a region of scalp hair that had become patchy in appearance.
