This patient, who had been diagnosed with a case of celiac disease, also known as celiac sprue, presented to this clinical setting displaying a tongue exhibiting papillary atrophy, also referred to as atrophic glossitis, and leukoplakia, which is represented by the white patches on the tongue’s surface. These lingual changes had been caused by the inadequate absorption of B12 from the intestinal tract, due to the celiac disease.
