Caption:
This image depicts an enlarged view of the stigmatic plates, or spots, which can be found on the larvae of the New World screwworm fly, Cochliomyia hominivorax. This specimen of a posterior spiracular, or stigmatic plate, was extracted from a third instar-phase example of a developing screwworm, evidenced by the presence of an incomplete peritreme (red arrow), and three straight, ovoid-shaped slits (green arrows). See PHIL 13391, for an illustration depicting a dorsal view of an adult C. hominivorax fly.
