Caption:
During an April 2014, polio eradication campaign in Egypt, a Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) resident-supervisor was shown here, administering an oral polio vaccine (OPV) to a young girl at a health office in Gharbia Governorate, as her father, who was in the background, held her hand. The FETP trains workers on the ground to help countries build sustainable capacity for detecting and responding to health threats. The program develops in-country expertise, so that disease outbreaks can be detected locally, and prevented from spreading.
