Caption:
This image was captured on August 29, 2013, and showed a number of men working together in order to extract a blood sample from a camel during a brucellosis study in Marsabit County, Kenya. This study was being conducted in an effort to strengthen human-animal health collaboration, and to determine the burden of brucellosis in animals and humans in pastoralist communities. Obtaining a blood sample from a camel, is a difficult process, requiring the participation of both veterinary, and medical Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) residents. The multidisciplinary team from both human, and animal health services, demonstrates the collaborative spirit necessary for the One Health initiative. The gloved individual was Dr. Kimani from the Ministry of Livestock.
