Caption:
This photomicrograph of a thin film human blood smear, extracted from a patient with a malarial infection, revealed the presence of three growing, Plasmodium ovale trophozoites, which were contained inside two, oval-shaped red blood cells (RBCs). The RBC on the left contained two separate trophozoites, while the RBC at right, contained a single organism. Each RBC was stippled with Schüffner's dots.
