Caption:
This image depicted a close view of a procedure taking place involving the extraction of a blood sample from a captured wild rodent, during a field epidemiologic investigation, as part of an encephalitis study. Here, you can see the left hand of an epidemiologist as it held steady, a captured rodent, while some of the animal’s blood was being drawn into the glass barrel of a syringe. Adhering to strict epidemiologic protocols, the extracted blood sample would be subsequently subjected to a barrage of tests, in order to determine the presence, or absence of the culprit pathogen. PHIL 20452 through 20456, depict views of the trapping, capture, and processing of suspect rodents, and their blood samples.
