Caption:
This image depicted what is known as a fundoscopic view of the retina, or the back of the left eye. Note that the retinal vessels appear to be emanating from the left, and that in this view, the fundus had been rotated counterclockwise approximately 45°. You will also see that there were fibrous striations running parallel to one of the retinal arterioles, which impart a washed-out, paler appearance to the retinal tissue adjacent to the arteriole, while the arteriole itself appeared blanched, and seemed to contain within its lumen, atheromatous plaque. These pathologic changes were categorized as early retinal sclerosis.
