Under a magnification of 400X, this photomicrograph depicted a number of newly discovered, Borrelia mayonii spirochetes, which were killed during the preparation of this image. The glass slide from which this image was been obtained, had been prepared, as a methanol-fixed, Giemsa-stained specimen, and viewed using a bright-field microscopy technique.
