Caption:
This image depicted a young child in a clinical setting, who was in a state of opisthotonos, due to a case of Pseudomonas meningitis, caused by a Pseudomonas sp. bacterium, which had been cultured from the boy’s gangrenous left leg wound. Known as pyoderma gangrenosum, though the leg wound cultures proved positive for the Pseudomonas bacterium, no fungal organisms were cultured. See PHIL 20835 20836, and 20837, for three views of the boy’s leg ulcer from an earlier point in time, prior to what appeared to be extensive debridement, and the addition of skin grafts.
