This image depicted an Indian red scorpion, Buthus tamulus, a scorpion common to India, eastern Pakistan, eastern lowlands of Nepal, and Sri Lanka. This species has been known to cause medical fatalities, and is rated as one of the most lethal scorpion species in the world, with most victims being children. Its venom affects the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems, leading to pulmonary edema, and sometimes to death.
