This photograph depicted a gross pathology specimen, consisting of a cut section of a human thyroid gland, which had undergone pathologic changes due to a case of nodular goiter. In this case, this thyroid had begun as a colloid goiter, and evolved into this grossly nodular specimen. In time, many colloid goiters undergo this type of pathologic evolution, becoming nodular in appearance.
