Caption:
This photomicrograph revealed the histopathology exhibited by a skin scraping sample, which had been affected by a dermatophytic fungal organism, causing a condition known as tinea versicolor, also known as dermatomycosis furfuracea, or tinea flava. Note the presence of spherical, yeast-like fungal cells, and short hyphae. Usually tinea versicolor is caused by Malassezia spp. fungi, including mostly, M. globosa, and less often, M. furfur.
