Under a magnification of 500X, this photomicrograph of a Lendrum-stained kidney tissue specimen, revealed the presence of cytomegalic inclusion cells, which were located amongst a number of renal tubules that had been cut in cross section. With their enlarged, darkly stained nucleus, these cells are also known as owl-eye inclusion cells, and are due to cytomegalic inclusion disease, caused by the cytomegalovirus.
