Entitled, “Horn of Africa Famine Response”, this image was captured by EIS Officer, Lina Nerlander, BMBCh, MPH, in the Division of Reproductive Health. The photo was taken during the photographer’s deployment to Turkana, Northern Kenya, where her team was evaluating the effect of the UN World Food Program’s, Blanket Supplementary Feeding intervention. Children were weighed and measured during consecutive food distributions, over several months, and caregivers were interviewed about the health of each child, and family situation. This photo earned Lina the First Place award in the 2012 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of Programs-International.
