At a magnification of 500X, this photomicrograph of a liver tissue specimen reveals histopathologic changes associated with infectious hepatitis, now known as hepatitis A. Note the presence of cytoplasmic eosinophilia with formation of a Councilman body, also known as an acidophilic body (arrowhead). This finding is indicative of hepatocellular necrosis.
