At a magnification of 125X, this photomicrograph of a liver tissue specimen, obtained from a patient with post-necrotic cirrhosis, demonstrates periportal fibrosis surrounded by numerous hepatocytes exhibiting ballooning degeneration, seen as enlarged, lightly staining cells with granular cytoplasm. A mild mononuclear lymphocytic infiltrate is also present. These findings are more pronounced in the section depicted in PHIL 23482.
