This photograph depicts a close anterior postsurgical view of an infant’s torso, captured 12 days after surgery to correct gastroschisis, a condition in which the bowel herniates through a defect in the anterior abdominal wall and develops exposed to amniotic fluid. The image demonstrates a postoperative infection along the abdominal wall closure site. No bowel resection was required; the infection was treated, and at follow-up after discharge, the infant was reported to be thriving.
