Under 400X magnification, this photomicrograph of human lung tissue depicts histopathologic changes associated with varicella pneumonia caused by varicella-zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3). At higher magnification (compared with PHIL 23690), there is evidence of acute inflammation and hemorrhage.
