Under a magnification of 1200X, this photomicrograph reveals morphologic features of the Gram-positive bacterium Nocardia asteroides. Note the beaded, branching filaments composed of bacteria arranged in chains, some of which give rise to spheroid structures. Nocardia spp. are the causative organisms of nocardiosis.
