Caption:
From 1965, this photograph depicts a male patient seated in a wheelchair, highlighting the lower extremities. Note the open, draining wound on the lateral aspect of the right knee (arrow), present as an incidental finding. The marked swelling and erythema of the right lower leg are due to envenomation by an unspecified venomous snake. See PHIL 24179 and 24181 for additional views of this patient’s envenomated leg, which progressed to spontaneous amputation. The image was donated by Dr. Mario E. Pacheco of New Orleans, Louisiana.
