Caption:
From 1965, this photograph depicts a male patient in a clinical setting, showing a lateral view of the right lower extremity following envenomation by an unspecified snake. The case progressed to spontaneous amputation of the lower leg several days after the bite. The remaining right lower limb is propped inside a basin, appearing to be wrapped in towels and supported by a splint. See PHIL 24179 and 24180 for additional views of this patient’s condition prior to the development of necrosis. The image was donated by Dr. Mario E. Pacheco of New Orleans, Louisiana.
