This image depicts a close view of the medial surface of a patient’s right knee, highlighting a hypopigmented macule associated with lepromatous leprosy. This lesion represents one of the earliest visible signs of the disease, which is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. See PHIL 24455 for a second view of this patient’s condition, showing another hypopigmented macule located on the volar surface of the left arm.
