Caption:
This image depicts an anterior view of a 12-year-old boy’s face. The patient presented with diffuse lepromatous leprosy, with bilateral involvement of the cheeks, periorbital areas, forehead, lips, and chin. Note the thickened and roughened appearance of the skin in these regions, contributing to facial asymmetry. Leprosy is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. This view was captured two years earlier than the image depicted in PHIL 24519.
