In August 2017, there was a large measles outbreak spread across numerous communities in the metropolitan area of Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The DRC Ministry of Health (MoH) teamed up with Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-trained Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP) in DRC, and CDC-Atlanta colleagues, in order to identify and test suspected measles cases in the community, in an effort to end the outbreak. Investigative teams comprised of doctors, laboratorians, epidemiologists and community health workers made visits to health facilities, like the Kamba-Mulumba health facility shown here, in the areas neighboring those with reported confirmed measles cases in search of more cases.
