ID#: 25006
Caption:
This image depicts a close dorsoventral view of a scarlet snake, Cemophora coccinea. A harmless tricolored species, the scarlet snake may be confused with the venomous eastern coral snake, Micrurus fulvius. However, in C. coccinea, the red bands do not contact the white or yellow bands, and the snout is red rather than black. See PHIL 25004 and 25005 for additional views of this reptile.
