Under a magnification of 500X, this photomicrograph of a cerebrospinal fluid specimen obtained from a patient with cryptococcosis reveals a cluster of yeast forms of the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. Note that several of these organisms are undergoing reproduction by budding. See PHIL 25443 for another view of these organisms at higher magnification.
