Under a magnification of 1187X, this photomicrograph of a cerebrospinal fluid specimen obtained from a patient with cryptococcosis reveals a cluster of yeast forms of the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. Note that several of these organisms are undergoing reproduction by budding.
