Caption:
This image depicts a ventral view of a female black widow spider, Latrodectus mactans that was guarding her egg case, photographed during a study of disease vectors in migrant labor camps. Although most spiders are harmless to humans, members of the genera Latrodectus and Loxosceles (including the brown recluse, Loxosceles reclusa) can inflict medically significant envenomations.
