This image shows a collection of live lone star ticks, Amblyomma americanum, each viewed from a dorsal perspective. Note the characteristic silvery-white spot at the posterior central margin of the scutum, identifying the adult female, while the smaller males display lighter markings along the scutal margin. The sex of two specimens is indicated by the symbols for male (♂) and female (♀).
