Under a magnification of 475X, this photomicrograph highlights histopathologic features observed in a skin scraping sample from a patient with tinea versicolor, or pityriasis versicolor, caused by the fungal organism Malassezia furfur (formerly referred to as Pityrosporum orbiculare). Shown are numerous short mycelial strands along with many small, round yeast cells.
