This image from 1968 depicted the feet of a child, which displayed a cleft, or split foot deformity, otherwise known as ectrodactyly. Cleft foot is a rare, inherited anomaly, in which a single cleft extends proximally into the foot. It usually occurs in conjunction with clawing of the hand.
