This image shows four slant culture test tubes containing vitamin-free casein agar. Tube 1 contains only the base medium; Tube 2 is supplemented with inositol; Tube 3 with thiamine; and Tube 4 with both inositol and thiamine. Each tube was inoculated with the dermatophytic fungal organism Trichophyton schoenleinii. Note that each specimen produces colonies with nearly identical morphology.
