This image shows four slant culture test tubes containing vitamin-free casein agar. Tube 1 contains only the base medium; Tube 2 is supplemented with inositol; Tube 3 with thiamine; and Tube 4 with both inositol and thiamine. Each tube was inoculated with the dermatophytic fungal organism Trichophyton verrucosum. Note that Tubes 1, 2, and 3 show little to no colony formation, whereas Tube 4 demonstrates moderate growth when both inositol and thiamine are present.
